Team History

The idea to start a new team in Culpeper began when Troy Ralston and Billy Mitchell attended a Valley Baseball League game in July 2021 at Rebel Park between the Purcellville Cannons and the New Market Rebels; they were guests of their friend, Cannons Assistant Coach Brandon Mack. From that night forward, much thought, research, conversations, and meetings took place. Finally, at the Valley Baseball League's March 2022 Board meeting, the Culpeper Cavaliers were unanimously approved and began play in the 2023 season. The nickname and mascot of Cavaliers was chosen because the largest Cavalry battle ever fought in North America was in Culpeper at the Battle of Brandy Station on June 9, 1863.
